Tile & Grout Cleaning
Tile, Grout & Surfaces
Ceramic, Porcelain, Terrazzo, and Marble are hard surface floor coverings that can be found in Florida homes. They’re durable, cool, and resist fading. But, each are cleaned differently. Marble is a softer surface than ceramic Marble is porous and stains easily Marble is a natural product and does not hold microscopic particles or germs Marble requires professional cleaning Ceramic is porous and is softer than porcelain Ceramic is made with clay, then fired and glazed Porcelain is made from sand, then pressurized under intense heat Porcelain is dense Porcelain can be used outdoors Terrazzo is a polished concrete flooring that has pieces of marble and granite embedded in it. None should be cleaned with harsh chemicals or any ammonia products. Cleaning is also determined based on the texture of the tile. Rough, unsealed tiles are cleaned totally different than polished tiles. Stains can be removed on most hard surface flooring. Mopping will pick up most surface dirt and grime, but it is far from being a deep cleaner. Not to mention dirty mop water, wring that mop and the back-breaking scrubbing that it entails. Steaming also works, but, if it isn’t done properly, grime and guck will remain in your grout. Steamers require the use of distilled water and you’ll need many steam pads because they have to be changed often for optimal results. Microscopic organisms lurk in grout. Grout is porous and usually unsealed. This is why grout seems to darken over time. The discoloration is actually a build-up of dirt, grime and organisms! Regular mopping, steaming, or hand-scrubbing won’t remove these contaminants that become trapped below the surface. Do you really want to be scrubbing grout on your hands and knees? Think Pink!
